3 Perverted Foods (Get Your Mind Out Of The Gutter…)

My sister graduated with her Nurse Practitioner’s degree last Friday and I ate cake.

Not only did I eat a piece of cake, but I ate a big honkin’ piece of cake and it was good.  It was really, really good.

It was a chocolate cake that was easily 10 inches tall – I’m not kidding – and every few inches there was a layer of white chocolate frosting.

I’m not done yet…

… In that white chocolate frosting was mixed raspberries – REAL raspberries.

It was unbelievable.

Want to know what else I ate?  A burger and fries.  I actually ordered tater tots and I was very upset when they brought me fries because it’s been YEARS since I’ve eaten a good tater tot, but the fries were cool too.

Why am I telling you this?

To make you jealous of the cake I had, but to also let you know that I ate like that and felt horrible Saturday morning…so at least you can feel glad knowing my stomach hurt and I was bloated and jiggly all weekend due to the indulgence.

I digress…

Some foods are better than others in helping you lose weight (or gain it), or maintain a healthy and vibrant lifestyle.  This you know.

But did you also know there are certain foods dubbed as “healthy” or “okay” by some experts, and lots of marketing hype, when in fact they’re unhealthy gut bomb foods?

Here’s a quick list of 3 unhealthy health foods.

1.  Regular Peanut Butter

I love peanut butter.  I have some most days of the week with the homemade protein bars Andrea whips up (which are mighty, mighty tasty!).

Peanut butter can be a very good food, but…

… You have to read the label and make sure it’s not perverted.

What does that mean?

REAL peanut butter should contain1 or 2 things – peanuts and a little salt.  The problem is that most big name peanut butters (even ones that claim to be “all natural”) load their jars up with extra sugar, vegetable oils and preservatives

Why the oil?  Because when the peanuts are ground down, they remove the peanut oil and add in cheap vegetable oil and too much vegetable oil is a BAD thing.   What do they do with the peanut oil?  I have no idea, but I’m guessing it’s valuable so they sell it off or use it in something else that’s more profitable.

Why the added sugar? I’m guessing it’s because the removal of the peanut oil and addition of the vegetable oil messes with the natural taste so they have to make it more palatable and sugar makes everything taste better.

That type of peanut butter is BAD and will make you gain weight, and can even mess with your blood profile due to the vegetable oils and unhealthy fats.

Get the good stuff.  If you pay attention in the grocery store (and it only takes once), you’ll probably even find that the good stuff isn’t that much more expensive than the bad stuff.

2.  Yogurt with Fruit (pre-packaged)

Yogurt is fine.  If you add blueberries, raspberries or strawberries to all-natural yogurt, that’s even better and is a great snack if you want to lose weight, but purchasing small containers of yogurt with fruit already in it is bad mamba jamba.

Why?  Because that fruit is nearly rotten.  There’s no way in h-e-double hockey sticks you’d eat that fruit if it was available separate from the yogurt.  It would be mushy, the coloring would be dull and lifeless and would be one step away from the trash can.

They also add extra sugar to the container to make that concoction taste better, which is another baddie.

If you want yogurt, that’s fine, but add the fruit yourself.  That way you KNOW it’s quality fruit and you KNOW there’s no added sugar to the mixture

3.  Fruit Juice

Fruit = good.

Fruit juice = bad and sometimes it’s as bad as the devil…

Why?  Because fruit juice is sugar water with a few vitamins (if any).

I know I’ve said many, many times before that you should never fear fruit when trying to lose weight, or maintain a healthy lifestyle, but fruit and fruit juice are NOT the same thing.

Fruit has fiber.  Fruit has living vitamins and phytonutrients.  Fruit takes time to eat and can help fill you up or keep you full.

Fruit juice has little or not fiber.  Fruit juice has little in usable vitamins because many of them die in the juicing, bottling, transportation and shelving process, which means all that’s left is the water and sugar.  Fruit juice is drank in gulp while also eating – which will double or triple the calorie intake.  Fruit juice is sweet (sweeter than the real fruit) which means you’ll start to crave it more and more and want it even if you’re not thirsty.

I’m mainly talking about store-bought fruit juice.  If you make your own fruit juice, and it still has fiber and you drink it within a short time after juicing, you should be fine.  The fruit juice you buy from the store is mostly perverted and has little resemblance to the actual fruit is claims to be.

Hopefully my rationale for these 3 foods made sense to you.  Again, I’m not telling you to avoid peanut butter, yogurt or fruit, but these variations of those foods are unhealthy and will not help get you closer to your weight loss goals…in fact, they’ll probably take you further away.

Use the variations I told you about and you’ll be much better off, not only fro ma weight loss perspective, but from an overall lifestyle perspective.
